Did it again last night!
Thu, 15 August 2019 13:23
Scrolling through TV channels looking for a Nat Geo, Animal Planet, or A&E anything and there it is: 'Taken'.
Don't know how many times I've watched this, but it seems to be the kind of movie you can come in anywhere and still find lots of action. Neeson is awesome in this, the first of the three in the series, and the only one that reached this level of interest for me.
What do you think of this one, and can you name any others that you can watch over and over?

I like that one too. Also for repeat viewing, I like the first two Terminator movies, first two Alien movies, No Country for Old Men, and Apocalypse Now.

Stan, I haven't seen that movie, but at my age I might have forgotten that I have. In fact, it generally takes me three nights to watch an entire movie, and when it is over I have already forgotten the beginning. :>) Take care, pal. Karl

Lots and lots

For me, too. I also really enjoyed all the Bernie Rhodenbarr ones.
The only two other authors I've read as many books would be Michael Connelly and James Lee Burke.

Several movies I like to watch over.

Godfather I & II (can't decide which one is better)
Dead Poets Society
Forrest Gump
Bournes Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum
Deja Vu (I still have trouble with the timeline of events)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (to feel young again)
The Birdcage (was my first encounter with Nathan Lane)
And I've watched Taken at least 10 times.
Nothing above that's too difficult to sit through.

I have that scene from when he says, "...remember me? We spoke three days ago." He had just had the dude read, "good luck." I literally have that 12 minutes on DVR. I love the entire movie but that scene is epic.

I haven't really seen Neeson in anything great for quite some time.
Fillums I like to re-watch? Quite a few - these are off the top of my head:
Cast Away (like yourself, I can start anywhere in this one and happily watch the rest).
The Man Who Would Be King
Pan's Labyrinth (watched it three times in the last three months!)
Zulu
Big (I dunno, it's just a satisfying movie).
Raiders of the Lost Ark (by far the best of the series, with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade also being re-watchable. Not the others, and certianly not Indiana Jones and the Smartass Kid and the Screaming Woman).
Saving Ryan's Privates.
A.I. (no-one seems to like this {too soppy?}, but I've re-watched it a fair bit).
A few of the Dirty Harry films.
Leon: The Professional
Downfall - really well done.

Watching twice?
Fri, 16 August 2019 04:17
I very rarely do this, but I think I will soon watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the second time. I watched High Noon recently, which was the third time, at intervals of about 20 years.
I don't seem to find time for the many films I'd like to see for the first time!

Only one movie I enjoy watching multiple times...
Fri, 16 August 2019 06:42
The Great Escape. I'm fascinated by Steve McQueen's character, Virgil Hilts, aka The Cooler King. Maybe because I'm always getting in trouble, too. ;-)

Aah, The Great Escape. Yep, Scott, one of the best of all times. Along with that I would also mention The Magnificent Seven. Both from the same time frame, and both with Charles Bronson and Steve McQueen (do believe that James Coburn was in both, as well). All my best, pal. Karl

Fri, 16 August 2019 21:17
...that I'd watch any time they're on (I know I'm missing some others):
A Few Good Men
The Blues Brothers 1 & 2
Trading Places
Ferris Buehller's Day Off
The Shawshank Redemption
Blazing Saddles
The Green Mile
Casablanca
The Maltese Falcon
The Big Lebowski
The Producers
Pulp Fiction
Men In Black 1 & 2
Groundhog Day
Chinatown
Die Hard
Notice these aren't artsy or very deep; just entertaining.

'Persuasion' (1995)
Tue, 20 August 2019 07:29
Hi Stan,
For me, it is 'Persuasion' (1995). It is one of the lesser-known Austen adaptations, but easily the most realistic-looking one. For example, the indoor nighttime scenes were filmed by candlelight alone, and the actors wore as little makeup as possible. Other Austen films or series, like 'Pride and Prejudice' and 'Sense and Sensibility', which both came out in the same year, give the impression of "I have been transported into an amazing fantasy land," but 'Persuasion' says "I actually believe that this is happening right in front of me."
A quiet film full of many details and wonderfully subtle classical acting, I find that there is always something new to discover with each viewing and it is like an old friend to me.
Raymond
p.s. Continuing to pray for you, and hope that you are doing ok, my friend.
