Rolex Service Question .. Case re-finishing Thu, 07 February 2019 11:37 Go to next message

In your experience....When Rolex services a vintage Tudor and re-finishes a case.. Do they restore to factory finish.. Do they polish in new chamfers on the edge of the lugs also(as seen below)... Does the finish look like fresh from factory as new?

Honestly... I would not touch that.... Thu, 07 February 2019 12:22 Go to previous messageGo to next message

always better to have the crisp original (even if a little dinged up) chamfers than a polished version when talking vintage. The more polishing the thinner the lugs get and the more likely they will not match each other. If I were you I would leave it with the OEM finish.

I once had a Tudor " Big Block " chrnograph from the 70's re-finised to it's original brushed finish and mine was much more dinged up that the one in your photo. Long story short, when it came back from the New York RSC it was virtually indistiguisable from the day I'd bought it.

Ok.. the photo is an example or chamfers and not my actual watch... The one I am buying has been polished and only slightly shows any chamfers. I am guessing that the advice is still the same.. I always follow the no polishing rule, but im addicted to chamfer's now. I was wondering if i could bring them back easily.

Unless the case is a disaster... Fri, 08 February 2019 12:49 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I would not polish it. Nothing worse than overpolished lugs. Particularly where the pin is sticking through the lug hole...
