Geneva Days: Rarer Than Diamonds, the Big Bang Paraiba,
Mon, 14 January 2019 19:51
One of the rarest and unique precious stones, Paraiba Tourmaline, is added to the Hublot family with the release of the Big Bang Paraiba. Innovating as always, Hublot is the first to use baguette cut examples of the stone in watchmaking.
More precious than diamonds, emeralds and rubies, the Paraiba Tourmaline is a naturally occurring fusion of gold manganese and copper mined in the Rio Grande region of Brazil.
Hublot obtains the stones exclusively from a mine that is certified to operate in an ethical and sustainable manner. Only clean water is used to protect the soil and reforestation is undertaken after the operations are completed.
The use of baguette cut stones requires up to 5 times more material than other shapes adding to the uniqueness and value of the collection.
The watch is available with both the Unico movement and in a 39mm version sporting the HUB1710 automatic movement. Each of them is available in either white or King Gold.
As for the Paraiba Tourmaline gems, the Unico bezels are set with 48 baguettes and the cases with 388 brilliant cut stones.
White Gold, $274,000
King Gold, $274,000
The 39mm options also have 48 baguettes mounted in the bezel. Being smaller its case has 129 of the brilliant cut stones and the sunray dial adds another 11.
