For sale is my Elgin A-11. Known as "The Watch That Won The War." This is a particularly good example. After I acquired it in 2013 and tried it on a number of straps, I purchased and placed it on an NOS period-correct, stitched olive drab strap issued with the A-11 to U.S. Aviators during WWII, shown in the photos below.
Once mounted on the NOS strap, I have not worn this A-11--easily seen in the photos. I acquired this A-11 as a birth year watch. As you can see, this is a 1944 model by the markings on the caseback (the serial number beginning with "44-" on line 4). The watch keeps excellent time. This is the Elgin cal. 539 movement. Note the oversize crown that is MIL-Spec.
The last three photos underscore the A-11's heritage--Major Ira Bong and Major Tommy McGuire were the leading American Air Aces of the war--both shown wearing their issued A-11s.
I doubt you will find a better example of an Elgin A-11.
