For me it goes comfort, lifestyle and size. I have a smaller wrist, so I prefer to the 38 - 42mm(max). I've had 44mm AP's, and I although they look beautiful and I love the sporty aspect of the watch, I just can't pull it off. Find the right look, make sure it's comfortable(!) and don't get a diver's watch if you don't dive :)
