+1. When I special ordered my Gold DJ w/ bronze dial, my AD had it from Rolex in 2 weeks times. I can't imagine that Platinum DD's are in short supply at Rolex. The more reasonable answer is that your AD would prefer to sell you a stock one he has as opposed to ordering a new one. As stated, if you decide not to buy it, the AD is stuck with the watch.
