Looking for some feedback on next watch, and general state of Rolex demand... Mon, 05 November 2018 11:01 Go to previous message

Hi All,

Looking for some insight and help into my next purchase. Last year my wife got me the blue dial Milgauss as a Birthday present which I have been loving. Now I have the itch to add another piece to the collection. Out of the current lineup, the two pieces that I really like, are also of course the two that might be most impossible to get. The blue dial SS sky dweller and the white face Daytona. Couple of things I am trying to think of and consider for this next purchase. I know in order to have a chance at pieces like these, you "need" or it helps to have an established relationship with your AD and create a purchase history to have priority on future pieces like these. Of course I do have some interest in other pieces that might be attainable, white dial Explorer II and blue dial datejust, but I don't want to feel like I am settling from what I have my heart set on. So the question is, do I see if I can find another attainable piece that I can obtain or order within the next couple months and try to slowly climb the ladder with my AD's customer list? Or do I bite the bullet and pay the current market prices for either of the SS Daytona or sky dweller and make sure I get a piece I know I won't be second guessing later on? Of course by doing this, it likely won't be from an AD.

On another note, when I first started reading these forums 8 years ago or so, I always thought everyone said Rolex production volumes are so high, they make 100,000's watch per year and have the highest volume of all brands. Did something change? For example, I was told by my local AD that they only received 2 white dial Daytona's all year and of course these were already allocated to their VIP customers. Is demand really that high, or have Rolex volumes gone done as well?

Looking forward to all the insight and help!
