Another Meeting with RM Team. RM-60-01 Review Tue, 31 July 2018 12:19 Go to previous message

Another meeting with the RM team last week.

Of course during lunch the client hands me the watch to drool over. And, I drooled extra for this watch. RM-60-01 Regatta Flyback Chronograph.

The case is a four part structure that requires 800 milling operations. Yes, 8-0-0.

The grand case houses Calibre RMAC2 which has all the daily functions plus date, month, annual calendar, flyback chronograph, 60 second count down, 24 hour totalizer, UTC function and adjustable rotor geometry with 50 hours power reserve. And the dial looks like an aerial view of a galactic city. However all functions are laid out in an organized fashion where you can read at a glance. I believe the stout hour/ minute hands with accented sub-hands are well designed to serve it's daily operations. The size is of a true regatta reading instrument, measuring 50mm at the round multi-layered bezel and 16.33 thick. The fine-tuned details are carried out to the smallest components such as eight-point torque screws in grade 5 titanium. The crown itself has functions. Crown has a second cap that locks the main functioning crown in place. The locking mechanism also releases the pushers with a simple turn. Not done yet with the crown functions... There are colorized indexes that show if the crown is locked.

Even though the watch is made with light materials, the watch still has a heft. I really liked the weight. The watch is well balanced, may be bottom heavy so that the case sits tight to the wrist. Also the concave case back helps.

The movement is to the RM finish standards with every part finished. The counter weight itself has 5-6 different materials with RM variable inertia feature. The movement itself is bigger than an 39mm AP Royal Oak with 68 jewels.

This watch has presence. Very hard to miss. The white rubber straps is great for summer theme attire.

The pushers and crown is just amazing. Something out of Gundam robots. Very industrial futuristic.

Concaved caseback is a fantastic feature.

Everything is floating within the dial. The mechanical background is just amazing.

Multi-layered bezel is just mesmorizing. Though a big watch, I honestly believe the dial to bezel proportions are on point.

My wrist is about 7.25", round.

Very thick and detailed.

It's big but I don't care.

This is probably my favorite shot from this page.

Alright, it's big on my wrist. However, the watch is on long strap. Short strap is contoured different to accommodate smaller wrist.

Decorated UTC button between titanium columns of the case.

The best looking crown in my humble opinion.

It's definitely the Goliath of RM.

 photo IMG_6984_zpsr2ek6zf1.jpg
Here's a comparison shot. Keep in mind, the movement in the RM is bigger than the pictured Royal Oak (39mm).

And back on owner's 8" wrist. I think the watch looks perfect on his wrist.

I have such a huge crush on this watch. However, I would settle for RM-028 since it's bit smaller at 47mm. I understand the tonneau shaped RM models are more popular but I personally like the divers better.

I actually miss this watch.

Joe
