A post-Photobucket SOTC (short form)...
Thu, 28 December 2017 19:51
I didn't migrate everything to Smugmug yet, and just don't see a reason to try posting anything that's on Photobucket (still have a grandfathered paid account for a little longer), so I'm sticking to the pics on Smugmug...
I decided to do something a little different this year. In looking through the collection, I discovered that I really wore 7 watches, one of which was this one:
mostly at home after work!
I guess the other 6 tell a bit of a story, and the watches that really didn't get worn will get evaluated for moving on. I am really more of an accumulator than a trader, so I tend to buy watches to keep. I have a couple of Stowas that aren't in this SOTC that aren't going anywhere for sentimental reasons, but it's time to get brutally honest with myself and do some pruning in the new year...
The end of the year "state of the watches I wear" SOTC overview:
And, from the left...
We'll start with the newest. The Moritz Grossmann Atum Pure High Art. This has become my new favorite watch, finally displacing the PML for that title. It's a little unfair, as I've been to the manufactory (twice), and actually heard about this watch from their CEO before it was even announced. It will fade a little for wear time when the DC/NoVA summer hits, but I haven't even begun to get tired of it!
Next in line are my two Rolexes. I've now had the GMT II-C for over 10 years. It still travels with me on most trips as it wears so well, keeps amazing time, and is so practical when I'm traveling. The Datejust II remains my go to "dress-casual" watch, and my hot and humid summer work watch. It looks great, also keeps great time, and when it's 95/95 outside, a little handsoap on the bracelet and a quick rinse, and we're off again.
My long time favorite and my first "good watch" after discovering TimeZone way back in 2006. Love the look of the original PML, and the RDM, although only 37mm, just wears so well. The RDM had kind of fallen off in wear, but I'm back in the dress shirt and tie, and frequently suit and tie, world, and it's still a wonderful watch.
And then there's the PAM 359 (on the TimeZone limited edition strap). It's not getting worn as much these days, but it still puts a smile on my face when the situation allows.
There are others, but they really didn't get worn last year, and they kind of don't seem to be part of the "collection" at this time.
We'll see what the new year brings.
