Question about a date wheel on Omega 1022 mvt.
Tue, 25 April 2017 13:30
I have a day/date Omega from 1978 with a 1022 movement in it. I had the movement serviced a few years ago and a new mainspring installed. After about a year, the date wheel stopped turning at midnight although the day wheel works just fine. When I try to access the date wheel with the crown in the second position, it is free spinning. I spoke with the watch repairer and he said to just use it as a time-only watch and forget about repairing it because parts aren't readily available and it's an old watch anyway.
I am not a watch repairer although I have changed quartz movements in several watches and have the hand remover and installer tools along with a full screwdriver set, loupe, tweezers, etc. I haven't taken the TZ watch repair course.
Question: how hard would replacing the date wheel and the plastic flipper be? Granted, the bottom plate on the 1022 is flimsy, but is this something that I could do myself? It looks like just a bridge or two needs to come off to access the date wheel; easily done with screwdriver and tweezers. I've discovered that the date wheel is available (new) for a reasonable sum and presume the plastic flipper would be too. Is there anything else that might be wrong that I haven't considered? Would you guys spot some issues for me, please? It's not a high priority matter as the watch is keeping time otherwise.
