How long to build a 7750?
Fri, 10 February 2017 22:41
How long does it take an experienced horologist to properly assemble a 7750 from clean, undamaged parts?
I ask because it took me -all day- to build just one, and it isn't in the case yet either.
It does run, all the functions look okay, and I think the 6 position test is pretty good for a first-timer build.
I have more pics: http://robertswatches.info/Festina7750/index.html
Should show you 109 pictures.
I made a few mistakes today during assembly, but I didn't break anything. I found my first mistake when trying to install the chronograph bridge. I discovered I used the wrong screw for the barrel arbor. Having replaced the screw with the proper one I was able to get to the next major obstacle, the automatic bridge. For whatever reason I managed to fling the parts out of this more than once, but nothing was lost or broken. Once I got that done I flipped the movement and put it into the 7750 holder I got from TZ Tool shop. That made building the top somewhat easy.
The first timing test I ran was a disappointment until I realized I had the chronograph running. Once I turned that off I ran another test and saw my amplitude readings pick up. I put it on the timer a few minutes ago dial-down and it is showing 271 degrees chrono off. I'm going to let it run all night and see what I have in the morning.
