It depends on the AD... some have a line of credit that they have to manage. I remember talking to AD's who are always chasing cash flow. It's not just the interest, although they have 60-90 days before they have to pay the distributor. That's their "grace period" before interest starts accumulating, since they pay with their line of credit, similar to car dealers. Therefore, a 50% deposit is almost "free money" from the point of view of the AD, in terms of cash flow.
