Welcoming Omega to my collection Thu, 07 March 2013 18:06 Go to previous message

I'm thrilled to welcome my first Omega, this Aqua Terra 8500 into by collection. I've had my eye on this watch for at least a couple of years, and I've read extensive reviews on the co-axial movement, and the watch in general. It fills a need that I had for a stainless steel watch that goes as well with a suit as it does with jeans and a jacket. I also needed a watch that would travel well, both on business trips and vacations. I have several leather strap watches including a JLC and a Cartier that dress up pretty nicely, and a few others that dress down nicely. This AT is the right blend.

A few details on this watch that I absolutely love. The "teak" face is stunning in any light. I love the way the indices pick up light in different conditions. I love the second hand that goes all the way to the outer second ring. I'm fine with the minute hand not going all the way to the minute markers (a "flaw" that has been pointed out by some reviewers), because what I really like is the way it sort of connects with the five minute indices as it passes. I love the way the lume on the second hand overlaps exactly the lume on the minute hand when it passes over, especially noticeable in the dark. I love the quick hour change feature. I love the crown that is so easy to get a hold of to screw out, screw in, and turn. The winding is soundless and smooth as butter.

As pointed out earlier by Saluki2009, this watch is extraordinarily comfortable on my 7.5 inch wrist. It fits nicely under the sleeve of my dress shirts a problem I encounter with some of my other watches notably the Calibre de Cartier.

And what can you say about that movement?! What a stunning piece of architecture. It almost makes me wish one could wear this watch inside out! And so far, with about 48 hours on it, it is spot on to the second.

Thanks for looking

Gord
