Macro photos of a Sinn 856s
Mon, 04 March 2013 03:17
I've been messing around with a macro lens and my watches. There are many details on the watch -- flaws and all -- that can't really be seen by naked eyes, but the shots do reveal watches in new ways. Last week I posted two series of photos on the IWC forum, and here I have a few photos of the Sinn 856s, one of my favorite watches in my rotation.
It's nearly impossible dedust the watch completely for closeup shots, so I must apologize in advance.
In my opinion, the 856 is equipped with a complex but functional dial design and a set of highly legible hands that work well together in a "tool" watch.
A closeup of the date wheel, the minute hand, and some of the prints on the dial. The jaggedness of the prints is not visible under normal circumstances. The 3D-ness of the numeral "3" is quite pronounced.
The central pinion impressively supports 4 of the signature Sinn aviation instruments style hands. I'm assuming the white flakes fell from the white paint on the hands, but luckily they can't be seen normally.
The innovative copper sulphate capsule, showing a healthy light blue color.
Sinn's watch cases and crowns are, from my experience, always top notch. The PVD finish on this 856s, several years old now, remains basically perfect.
The ETA 2893 happily ticking away at 8 beats per second, in this exposure of 3 seconds.
