Tropical versus Patina Dials Sun, 03 March 2013 10:54 Go to previous message

The term patina in describing a vintage dial is widely used here, and in many cases, revered by a lot of members of this forum. I also notice the term "tropical" being used as well but less commonly here, and more on auction sites. Is "patina" and "tropical" describing the same thing? On some archived threads, I got the sense that "tropical" is more in-line to dial damage, whereas patina is more descriptive of common aging. If that is the case, should one stay away from "tropical" dials?

I greatly appreciate any comments, and examples. Thanks, Dan
