My Portuguese Family Portrait
Sat, 09 February 2013 12:59
Today seemed like a good opportunity to take a few photos of the Portuguesers in my collection. It all started with the Portuguese Chrono, about 15 years ago. It was love at first sight:
While I had been aware of the Jubilee Portugueser of 1993, it was way outside my budget at the time and almost impossible to find, but the Small Portuguese had just gone out of production and my AD happened to have one!
At 36 mm it seems a little small these days, but just right for my wife to wear.
Fast forward to 2003, I had just received the big promotion along with a transfer to Cincinnati. It was also a significant employment anniversary (25) and birthday (51, but hey, close enough!). I had been looking for and lusting after a Jubilee for years. I finally traced one down that had only been worn a couple of times and had lived its first 10 years in a safe. My only "used" Portuguese:
This became the most important watch in my life and my abiding good luck charm, when I wore it on my first date with the lady who became my wife. I've worn it at the wedding and every anniversary since.
A couple of years later and I found this while visiting the brand new AD in Cincinnati:
I was actually planning to get the then-new 5001 but was captivated by the Jones. Of course a few months later I gave in and got the 5001:
One final image, the large and the small of it:
If you've made it this far, thanks for your patience!
