Thoughts on the evolution of Omega (cross posted from PF)

My first good watch was given to me by my great uncle, who claimed to be allergic to gold. Imagine that I wore the watch below throughout my teenage years - though only on special occasions; even I wasn't that dumb. My 20s were a decade of mediocre watches but growing desire - largely due to Tag's advertising. But it wasn't until my early 30s that I acquired horologitis. At the time, I didn't really perceive Omega as a premier brand. I liked the Speedy Pro, just one someone else's wrist (a shame, I was born in July 1969; it would have been a fitting match). Years passed. I tried the PO. I had a sense of better finishing, but it just didn't sit well on my wrist. Last week I popped into the Omega Boutique on Fifth Avenue to have a gander, and I came away impressed. I'm not sure the second generation POs would sit any better on my wrist, but they ooze quality. The second gen ATs look great - especially the golf series, which has a new arrival in the white dial blued hands variant. Of course, many people have commented on Omega's lunge upwards; I think it has worked. The watches today - the renewed commitment to innovation and finish - is a lot closer to what, I think, the brand represented in the past. Of course, this comes at a price.
