I don't generally have much change in my collection, and have recently acquired two interesting watches. They probably can't all stay (from a fiscal perspective) and I have some tough choices coming up! Stay tuned for Part II of the acquisitions...
The first watch I purchased is a Girard Perregaux Ref. 4770. It houses the ultra-thin GP 3100 movement, though behind a solid back. There is a comparison shot with my Explorer 1 to allow you to see how thin this watch really is. I've always liked GPs and this is my third (only one at a time!)
What I like about it:
- Very unobtrusive on the wrist
- Beautiful guilloche dial, but not "loud"
- Fine printing on the dial, and the date wheel has a lovely font
- Love the blued hands, and the tail on the seconds hand. Most of the Ref. 4770 seem to have Breguet hands, which I like, but the Feuille hands on this watch really work, imho
- Crown is perfectly sized for the watch, and quite easy to wind (though this is an automatic) smooth winding action, as you would expect
- 20mm lug width making strap options easy (though again, I have an "emergency" strap on it)
Enough chit-chat, on to the scans!
