Mysterious IWC Force Dragged Me On the Way to Harvard Shanghai Center Wed, 02 January 2013 22:35 Go to previous message

Bottom Line Up Front: Here's What I Ended Up With.

New IWC Alligator Strap and gold Buckle for my Cal89 along with a few goodies.

I needed to go down to the Harvard Shanghai Center to drop off some materials.

My office is a few blocks away, so I walked, even though it was cold.

I decided to cut through the IFC Mall, which is connected to the HSBC building. Yep, Shanghai has an IFC Mall Similar to Hong Kong.

Entered at the doors between LV and Cartier. Walked straight through and was approaching the HSBC reception area by the elevators when a mysterious force from the IWC Boutique dragged me inside.

I was almost home free and through the turnstiles when the force grabbed me.

The manager approached and explained they had received a new high-powered directional magnet for demonstrating the pilot watches' resistance to magnetic fields.

How interesting.

About that time, it occurred to me that I was wearing this, which I had recently purchased in Hong Kong.

The amazing thought occurred to me that my Cal89 -- though a vintage piece-- might be better suited with an IWC OE Alligator strap with a shiny new gold buckle. True, it would be a mix and match of old and new, but, it would also be IWC through and through.

As the manager was changing the strap, an assistant made this happen (note: stock photo used here. Lighting was to low for a real photo.)

It looked like something I needed for my frequent travels to distant lands. And that powerful magnetic force was not affecting it.

I told the manager that I would think about it.

As a friendly reminder to think about it, I was given this nifty little IWC UBS Thumb Drive resembling a Cowl Plug. Clever. Reminded me of my days spending countless hours on flight lines.

And to further remind me of their hospitality, the manager gave me one of those new microfiber cleaning cloths.

By now the strap was changed and I was on my way through the turnstiles to the elevators.

In the future I'll try not to wear too much metal when passing that IFC Boutique with the mysterious magnetic forces.
