A Vintage 4737 Cioccolatone on the Wrist Mon, 24 December 2012 18:03 Go to previous message

Hard to believe that anyone made a watch like this in the 1950s. There were several Cioccolatone models including a manual wind, an automatic, a version with date only, and of course the famous triple date calendar. The time only and triple date versions were reissued by VC later under the name Toledo 1952, though only the triple date is still in production.

I feel very fortunate to have recently acquired this 4737 at auction. It was manufactured in 1957 and houses the P1019/1 automatic movement with swan neck micro regulator. It is in excellent condition for its age and still keeps near perfect time. I may have the movement serviced by VC and replace the crystal, which has a minor scratch, but won't touch the original silvered dial, which looks great after an impromptu dusting and removal of a little tarnish from the indexes.
