Sky Dweller - inital impressions
Tue, 20 November 2012 11:00
I got to play with "the only Sky Dweller in Chicago" last weekend. The new models always look completely different to me in person than they do in the glossy ads. Same with the Sky Dweller.
They had the red-gold in the store window, and I was stopping in anyway, so I asked to look at it while I was in there. My first impression was the height of the watch. It seems to me this is the thickest Rolex available, short of the new Deep Sea. It seems really high. The Annual Calendar is much more prominent in person, you can really see the month indicator clearly from any angle. Really well done, in my opinion.
I still do not like the 24hour ring. It just looks wrong to me. I think it would have been better as a window instead of the whole ring. But again, just my opinion.
The whole thing with turning the bezel for setting/mode is really, really cool. And in typical Rolex fashion, it clicks perfectly, between modes. I do think it should have some indicator for what mode the bezel is in, like a dot, extra indentation, something like that.
As for the list price, YOW. Let's see, I can get a Sky Dweller or an IWC Perpetual for about the same price? Really?
