Benarus Remora 2 Review a clear winner ! Sat, 03 November 2012 10:44 Go to previous message

Just received this Benarus Remora 2/Gold Thursday Nov 1, 2012

Both Steve and Ralf have a excellent designed watch and choosing a high quality manufacturer (might even be ISO 9001 cert) on this model and what appears to be their other dive watch models

A quick initial review by a guy who has been on the watch forums for 13 years and had so many dive watches over the years I've lost count...

• 47mm lug to lug with drilled lugs
•12 mm thick (really no visible lugs except underside case) like most watches due to the cushion type retro case. And not HUGH like so many divers.
•500 meter depth rating
•Sapphire no scratch lumed bezel, excellent idea. bezel has a well-designed edge for easy gripping and turning.
• Flat sapphire crystal with AR coating inside.
•Rubber O-ring on crown stem, great additional water resistance feature.
•Nice design on the crown seems to be just the right sizefor the watch case, deep machined grooves for easy grasping. Crown tube is thick and threads are well machined, crown seats smoothly into the threads. Crown is also engraved with Benarus dolphin logo. Tube is threaded into the case .
•The gold highlights on the hands and dial indices are subtle with a slightly classy look for a tool diver Dial with 12,3,6,9 is very visible in normal daylight, date white with black back ground at 4:30. The dial is uncluttered with no unneeded wording as the gold lettering seems to blend into the black dial background very well.
•Only lettering on dial is: Benarus, Remora and 500M that's it, what more info do we need on awatch dial....
•Hands are a perfect design with excellent lume and size.
•Miyota 9015(Citizen's ETA Equal) movement so far after 24hrs is within COSC specs at about2-3 seconds.
•Lume on dial, hands and bezel is as EXCELLENT as good as a Seiko Monster. Looks to be Lumnova C3
•Case back is engraved with the Benarus dolphin logo, serial number and typical depth rating, sapphire, etc
•The brown leather strap and Blasted finish buckle is also excellent quality, nice even white contrasting stitching and sliding longer length keeper
•22mm bracelet/ also case is well machined blasted finish, flip-lok clasp has a 4 micro adjustments for a perfect fit, nice diver extension, with 1.8 mm double slot head screws/tube for link adjustment. bracelet screws and the overall bracelet and divers extension well machined. Can't say enough for the high quality!
•I'm not a rubber strap wearer but the rubber is a nice, Iso-frane type also a quality rubber and buckle.
•Excellent high quality (well stitched) padded velvet-lined with zipper closure 2 watch case with Benarus logo and extra compartment with flap for storage of "stuff" links, warranty card etc.
•5 watch velvet lined folding watch case with Velcro closure and pouch to store

• NOTE ON ZULU nylon strap users: Yes, Zulus will fit if the Zulu is first soaked in warm water for about 3-5 min to "soften" them up otherwise you in for a tug of war.

• Another suggestion for Remora owners use shoulder-less springbars : 1.78mm diameter with a .80mm pivot point. These will extend allthe way into the case lug/springbar holes for a more secure fit rather than the standard double flange type supplied.
