IWC Mark XVII questions from new owner.

Hello, recently i purchased an IWC Mark XVII and i have really liked it so far. I sold a Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine diver to make way for this watch (I try to "only" keep 3 watches at a time, at the moment it is a Mark XVII, IWC aquatimer 3536 and a Pam 118) I had a few questions about my new watch that I have been unable to find the answers to through searching.
1. my 3536 Aquatimer has what i understand is the same movement as the Mark XVII but the XVII is nickel plated and the aquatimer is gold plated...why the difference?
2. The 3536 has an uncoated 3.7mm thick crystal, the Mark XVII has a coated crystal but i cant find the thickness, can someone chime in on the thickness of the crystal and how the coated crystal will perform over time compared to the uncoated crystal on my aqua timer?
3. The Mark XVII boasts "a front glass secured against sudden drops in pressure" how does this feature compare to other watches that may have similar construction standards?
4. Finally the manual on both my 3536 aquatimer and the Mark XVII advises against using the rapid date advance between 8pm and 2am, can someone speak on the reason for this?
thanks in advance. Below is a pic of both my IWC'S
