This is a brief report on the event held last night at The Bellagio in Las Vegas - A Legendary Evening presented by Hublot and World Boxing Council. The Champion fighters honered were: Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Lennox Lewis, Jeff Fenech, Larry Holmes, Ken Norton, Tommy Hearns, Roberto Duran, Azumah Nelson, Julio Cesar Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya and George Foreman. All were in attendance except for De La Hoya and Ken Norton. The stars of the evening were the 12 watches being auctioned off to raise funds for the WBC Charitable causes such as retired boxers pension and emergency fund. According to Hublot and WBC, "These 12 unique pieces, King Power World Boxing Council, mimic the look of the iconic championship belt awarded to the world's best fighters. It is made of 18K King Gold with a powerful 48 mm diameter and presents the WBC symbol on the back case and the signature of each fighter."
Through the kindness of Timezone and Hublot, my son and I were fortunate and honored to be at the event. I will use many adjectives and superlatives in this review. Trust that none of them could do justice to actually being there to experience every aspect. Also trust that Hublot went ALL OUT to provide a venue, food, drink and entertainment befitting of such a legendary evening. There has never been a collection of champions in the same room as we experienced last night.
Starting the evening was a cocktail reception where guests were welcomed with a Special Evening Libation made from Hennesy Black. We were then treated to hor d'oeuvres ranging from crab cakes to lamb chops, seared ahi to lobster puffs and beef wellington puffs to caviar. The guests could mingle and view the special watches and robes belonging to each fighter. While mingling, you never know who you might run into...
Next was dinner, introductions and auction in the Grand Ballroom. I think I'll just let the pictures do the talking now!
We were fortunate to be at a table with World Champs Celestino Caballero and Leon Spinks and his lovely wife. Of course there were also TZ champs William and Jessica at the table. It was great talking watches, boxing and Timezone! All guests were treated to a Hublot Swag Bag featuring a real boxing glove. Leon was kind enough to personalize for me - his famous smile lit up the room!
"Once in a lifetime" is often thrown around when we talk about life experiences. For my son, Michael and I, this was truly once in a lifetime! The good cause of the WBC was benefited by proceeds totalling exactly $1 Million. The watches ranged in price from $52,000 to George Foreman and Lennox Lewis fetching $100,000 and Sugar Ray Leonard setting the record at $140,000 for his watch. I hope I was able to bring some part of the excitement and experience to all my friends on Timezone. There should be extra words in the English language to express gratitude greater than a simple thank you. Since it does not exist at this time, THANK YOU to Hublot, WBC, Timezone, William and Jessica for this Once in a Lifetime Experience.
