I'm not sure what your friend means by "quality." You might want to ask him for some specifics. Mine keeps perfect time, as does my Zenith Captain Central Seconds with the Elite movement, and the Captain Chrono before it. Perfect time to me means +0 to +1 after 5 business days which is as long as I ever wear a dress watch at a stretch. I don't play football with it on. And I don't play football with my PP, VC, JLC's, GO, or any other mechanical watch. It's a dress watch. I have spent many hours admiring GP at the NYC boutique. There are UN's and there are UN's, so I guess you should get more specifics.
I think the Captain Winsor is finished beautifully. If you're going to compare the movement finish to a Lange, then it's not the same, but neither is any GP or UN I've ever seen. It falls short of PP and VC as well, but it's under $10K. I don't ever find myself looking at the movement and feeling disappointed, and I don't think you would either. So have a look. This is an iPhone pic.
I think Zenith has undeservedly lost some cache recently. And I think that there marketing misses the mark. But there watches are beautiful, reliable and accurate at least in my small sample. I'm 3 for 3.
