Hi Randy,
a small piece of wood (35x20x120mm) will also do the trick:



drill or punch a hole in it to hold the stud; doesn't have to be a very tight press fit, initial pinning of the stud doesn't require a lot of force.
You'll probably have a tweezer in your left hand, leveling/positioning/holding the hairspring, simply rest that hand on the wood to steady things out when pushing in the pin....

Actually I use this piece of wood quite often for various jobs, eg placing levers on it when cleaning with a scratch brush etc.
