I use the manual version of the Nikon 105mm Micro-nikkor, together with the PN11 for 1-1 shots. As a long time Nikon user (since 1976)I would suggest that the extra quality that Nikon lenses offer is only really necessary if A. you need the robustness and longevity they offer or B. you need to make very large pix.
For shots that culminate in sub A3 prints, or as 72 dpm images on screen in a PC then the extra expense is difficult to justify (unless you like using fine engineering/expensive toys). But this is where we came in isn't it?
