NEW LAUNCH: Steinway & Sons Watches Sat, 01 December 2007 12:24 Go to previous message

The most recognized piano manufacturer has launched its own stand-alone watch brand, "Steinway & Sons Watches". Founded 150 years ago, Steinway & Sons employs over 400 master craftsmen, cabinetmakers and piano builders who use the best materials to produce the finest musical instruments. Each grand piano takes nearly a year to create and, at the heart of each grand piano, is a diaphragmatic soundboard which tapers gently from the center edges to assure the full, rich Steinway sound.

Pianist and watchmaker Fabrizio Cavalca spent months designing the Steinway & Sons Watches collection. Blending music and horology, the Steinway grand piano dictates the design of the watches. The case work is a well-balanced combination of straight and curved lines. The dial features 12 hand-fitted strings on a gold soundboard, as well as ebonized hands with a satin finish.

The Swiss automatic movement is a customised ETA 2000 with an ebonised rotor and bridge. The mens models are available in 18k white, yellow or red gold in a limited edition of 1853 pieces of each model (1853 saw the founding of Steinway & Sons). The ladies' diamond set model is fitted with a quartz movement and is available in 18k white, yellow or red gold.

I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about. Wilde
