ML’s Cinq Aiguilles was launched in 1990 as the first model with a complication developed especially for the Masterpiece Collection.
Baselworld 2006 will see Maurice Lacroix present a further development of this model. Although the new Masterpiece Cinq & Cinq still features five central hands, its basis is now the current in-house movement the automatic caliber ML120 (based on a Technotime TT 738). This movement, thanks to its two barrels, holds a power reserve of over 120 hours.
The ML120 caliber is based on a movement recently developed by the ebauche manufacturer Technotime. Technotime makes the balance, shock protection, pallet and escapement wheel, as well as the main spring. The automatic movement has a diameter of 30.40 mm, 33 functional jewels and beats at 28,800 bpm.
Functions are five central hands displaying the hours, minutes, seconds, weekday and date.
Each of the five hands has a different shape, which prevents misunderstandings when reading the information. On the silver-coloured dials, the hour, minute and second hands are from blued steel, while the hour and minute hands also feature a luminous tip. The days of the week are indicated by a gold or silver-coloured hand with a red tip and the current date appears in a semi-circular sickle, that marks the end of the fifth hand. And last but not least, the case: The classic Masterpiece case was cautiously further developed for the Cinq&Cinq and enlarged by two millimeters to give it a more striking, modern form.
The case is available in stainless steel or steel and 18kt rose gold. It measures 42mm and has double sapphire crystals. It is water resistant to 50 meters.
