Pondering the Titanium Fifty Fathoms...
Tue, 11 September 2018 05:59
Having shamelessly lusted after one of these since seeing Shortys Home's photos, I got a chance to try one on at the Sincere boutique in Singapore.
It is a truly lovely watch in the flesh, the dial dazzles compared with that my pedestrian steel model...
One thing I'm just not all that keen on; the sailcloth strap. I'd prefer a Nato, but I'd also rather it be the Nato with metal hardware as you'd find on a Bathyscaphe ...
More than that, I found myself wondering if Blancpain would ever make a titanium bracelet. Either the X71, which is agreeable, or, gasp, one more similar to the Bathyscaphe's fantastically different looking one....
I am the only one who'd love to see a bracelet option ?

Some thoughts...

... first, as you wrote, the titanium FF needs to be seen in the metal to be fully appreciated, photos don't do it justice.
I understand your wish for an alternative to the sailcloth strap, the new Blancpain Nato straps will all come without the hardware we know from the Bathyscaphe.
The Bathyscaphe Nato would fit the FF, though. I once used it on a TTAL and it looked great. With titanium you would probably hurry up to locate the titanium hardware of the titanium Bathyscaphe, since this version is discontinued and it may get difficult to get this hardware moving forward.
To my knowledge and upon my inquiries with Blancpain, a titanium bracelet is not planned.
Cheers
Henrik

Thankyou Henrik for the reply. I suspect that your ear is closer to the horses mouth than most, so when you say a bracelet is unlikely, I'll take it as so.
I've not seen the all-fabric Nato's, but hard to imagine that they'll look or feel as special as the original ones with that exquisitely distinctive hardware.

All I can say...

is that I tried one on at the AD this week, the 40mm titanium Ocean Commitment, and wow. It was EXCELLENT. It was difficult to avoid, uh, _committing_ to it immediately, despite the fairly eye-watering price.
