Oversize Watch Strap Sat, 14 April 2018 13:15 Go to next message

I have an Omega Watch with 19mm lugs. I would like to mount a rubber strap on this watch but 19mm rubber straps are very difficult to find unless one is willing to pay big bucks for one from Omega. I have a 20mm rubber strap from another watch that would look good on my Omega. Has anyone had success in mounting a 20mm rubber strap on 19mm lugs? Are there any risks in doing so, such as the spring bars bending or popping out? Many thanks in advance for your help.

I have never put a 20mm on 19mm lugs but since the band is rubber why very carefully shave off 1/2mm from each side of the opening for the spring bars. Is that possible?

You could trim the rubber strap a little...> Sun, 15 April 2018 03:01 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Here's a more extreme example I did some time back.

I will trim the strap as you suggest.

I would not worry about the springbars (obviously, use 19mm springbars!!!), as the rubber strap is effectively invisible to them. Think about a NATO strap, you put the spring bars in with nothing, then the strap threads around them.

Shaving 0.5mm off each side should be fine, I would only worry if there was some sort of fiber or other reinforcement at the ends you had to cut away - but a pure rubber strap? I wouldn't give it any thought.
