Geneva Days 2018: Hublot Unico Sapphire Galaxy and Sapphire One-Click 39mm Wed, 17 January 2018 14:01

The Hublot Unico Sapphire Galaxy LE

Hublot has combined amethysts and sapphires in varying colors and the clarity of sapphire to evoke the Milky Way.

48 carefully chosen amethyst and sapphire stones are arranged around the bezel. They transition gently between the red and blue hues to represent the varying colors of the stars that are seen in the sky.

The sapphire case, being clear, represents the vast expanse of invisible material stretching between the stars.

It is released as an LE of 50 pieces each in clear and smoked black sapphire

Meticulous attention to the detail of the stones is required to achieve the desired effect on the bezel.

The Hublot Unico Sapphire One-Click 39mm

Expanding upon its work in sapphire, Hublot is also releasing three 39mm Limited Edition. Any other 39mm band can be easily interchanged with the included clear one using the one-click attachment mechanism.

The movement is Hublot's 1710 self-winder.

The color of the Sapphire is a function of the chemistry used in growing the crystal from which each case is carved. Achieving uniform color within the crystal requires great care and expertise.

Clear Sapphire, as you'd imagine, is the pure crystal

Adding aluminun and titanium oxides results in a pink cast

The sky blue is formulated using iron oxides.
