Prior to wearing the Jorg Gray watch...

with a now unique Secret Service dial, President Obama wore a Tag Heuer series 1500 two-tone diver's watch. His most recent watch demonstrates that the watch bug can bite any time.

Great taste, love that watch. As for getting bitten by the watch bug...

it's considered bad form for the president these days to wear an expensive watch because some people will consider him elitist or tone deaf to the problems of everyman.
So most "public servants" shelve their expensive toys while in office.
Which would be a bummer to not wear your favorite watches for 4-8 years.

It is a shame...

It is about perception. The reality is the POTUS wears bespoke clothing so a fine watch should be part of the package. The current President I believe wears a nice VC.

I read in one of his bios, that Reagan took off his Corum the day he was shot because he did not want to be seen with it at a gathering of labor leaders.

Trump has been seen wearing a Rolex president, before he was president.
I think that Obama is not a watch guy but may become one? A lot of past presidents do. Remember, he was not a wealthy guy before. Now, different story.

Due to the pattern - he was definitely influenced by TZ.

This is the pattern:
Someone thinks he has a fine watch - a quartz TAG or Raymond Weil or Movado etc. A 1000$ watch!
The he discovers TZ.
Then he realized his fine quartz watch is not that fine. Actually - not fine at all, since it's a quartz.
Then he buys a fine mechanical.
And another one.
And another one.
Etc....

the reverse is now happening for me. I caught the mechanical bug 20 years ago, and am the proud owner of a baker's dozen mechanical watches, but Im now more and more into quartz. They're a lot of great quartz watches out there. I love them. I'm even thinking about a high tech Omega or Brietling, although the fine print about how only the manufacturer can change out the battary concerns me!

Re: President Obama Has a New Watch -- $15,000 Rolex

I recently saw this exact same watch in a pre-owned case at a nearby Rolex AD. It's even better looking in the metal. I think the rose gold version is even nicer than the white gold. Due to Cellini being less popular the price was great but, alas, the spousal unit was giving me stink eye the whole time I was in the store.
