Will Omega allow a dial swap during factory service? Sun, 20 March 2016 13:57 Go to next message

My wife bought me an Omega speedmaster automatic as a wedding gift seven years ago. I believe that model is since discontinued. It is starting to lose time and is in need of a service so this year I will be sending it back to have it overhauled but my question is, the dial that is currently installed is silver and as my eyes are getting older I have difficulty reading the time because of the lack of contrast. Will Omega change the dial out to another OEM dial (correct for this reference) of a darker color? I know for a fact this particular one came both in the silver and dark blue dial but don't know what other color or dial options were available. Anyway if this is not something that Omega would approve of doing I may look to a different source for servicing my watch that can obtain a different dial and do the work. Though I would prefer to go to the factory.

They will as long as it's an option they offered the watch in. Sun, 20 March 2016 14:32 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. Is there a reference online to see dials options offered for discontinued watches?

Have the same issue. Sun, 20 March 2016 20:39 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I have the same problem seeing the hands on my Speedmaster Apollo 11 35th anniversary version without reading glasses. Never thought of switching out dial. Don't think I would since it is s limited edition model. Although I don't wear it much anymore.

When I was at the RSC in NYC a few years ago the answer to the question was NO.

I currently have my Rolex GMT in for service at a local watchmaker with a parts account at Rolex. Just for the heck of it I'll ask him if he could switch dials on Rolexes when I pick up my watch.

ROLEX: GMT II (Pepsi Bezel), Submariner Date (1983). BREITLING: Navitimer, Aerospace Evo. OMEGA: Speedmaster Date (1997), Speedmaster Pro (3573.50). TISSOT: Chronograph (circa 1966 and still keeps great time!). CONCORD: Chronograph Quartz (1988).

Rolex US requires the old dial to be sent in and the owner pay for a new dial... Tue, 22 March 2016 16:38 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Omega allows you to keep your old parts where as Rolex doesn't.

Best Regards,

Damon

Interesting Tue, 22 March 2016 21:50 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I always thought Omega was more customer focused that maintaining the "integrity" of the brand.

Imagine [word removed] (hope I can mention their name since they're an official Omega service center) would allow this.

Regards.

I asked this question to Omega a number of years ago and the answer was yes they would as long as it was a dial they had offered the model of watch. They specifically told me that they would not create a "fantasy watch." Their terminology was unique enough that it stuck with me over the years. I'm in the same boat you are - need high contrast between dial and hands these days because of aging eyes!

It's cruel irony Fri, 25 March 2016 03:59 Go to previous messageGo to next message

It's cruel irony that by the time of life when we can treat ourselves to the watches we love, we can't see the darned things!!

Oh well. At least chicks dig us.

Rolex does?? I had no idea. Would prefer my 16013 to be a blue dial vs. gold to change up the feel.
