As many people knows, i was hired by Richard Paige as a moderator 10 years ago, and i know my 10,000 posts are coming since we have a new forum soft in '03, i've decided to show you all of watches in my collection accumilated from over the years.
I started preparing this last Wednesday, but it turned out to be more time consuming process than i thought, ended up i couldn't post or answering the questions as much i like to be in past few days just because i was stuck in this project, saving of the 10k post.
But i promise i'll back to the normal posting habit, and won't keep you waiting...Anyway here's pics. I'd like to start off with Seikos.
I placed 11 watches at the time, ended up with 44 rows...
Actually i didn't even know i had this many myself, i lost count long time ago and never counted for ever since.
Ok, here's how i started, i went out and bought 3'x6' folding table, stopped by at fablic store looking for black cloth, but i found bed sheets sey in black (cheaper).
I didn't realized these folding wrinckles are not going to show anyway, so i was ironing it...
Then started bring in all the Seikos stashed in various boxes.
As i look through the boxes, i found many watches without strap or bracelet, and some of them had cheapest so called "frea market strap" on them. I know this is not important, but since i'm trying to do it right, i have to replace 'em.
And i found this perfectly original 45 King Seiko, but...
I have no intention to keep this original starp from almost 40 years ago...gees.
So my first day was nothing but spent time adding straps or replacing them hoping that i have enough straps and spring bars.
Here's my vintage Grand Seikos, now they all have croc strap, costed me fortune but have to have them.
Vintage chronograph pile, now they all have decent straps.
and another...
So i went through every boxes, an another day past...
Just i thought i replaced them all, few more showed up, and drove me nuts.
Now the display time, i was not planning to take them all out of box first, i just open them and place on the table.
But also i realized that there are extra watches inside the box like this one, not to mention they are not same kind of all, in this box, i have some Seiko Champions, 2 Gold feathers, 5 Gyro Marvels, 2 Laurels are loose inside...
Not to mention if i started to place them, there's no way i can show you everything, and i never know how many watches i have.
So i started take them out of box, laying on the table loose, but you know they are all mixed with straps and bracelets, i will lost count in a sec. if i place them all like that...
Ok, there's no easy way out, i started placing them in side ways, i've tried to place 12 in each raw, but it was squeeze fit, so i started all over again with 11 watches per raw. Here i just finished Sportsmatics and started emptying Seikomatic box, hoping that i can put everything back in after this.
And of course i was re-discovering what i have during the process, it was boring task in the way, here are the Seikomatic chronometer.
I have day/date version too...
As i kept going, a disaster happened, i tripped on the excess black sheets on the side, there goes hours of preparation....
I pulled sheets from the wall with it too, i wanted to cry. So i managed to placing some, but quit for that day, doing something else.
Following day, i started with vintage 5 sports, but you know what? I'm running out the space soon. So i went out and bought an another folding table, an another half of day was taken by preparation, i thought one table should be enough...
Later of the day, now i have another table, no bother to ironing the sheet this time, because won't be seeing it.
I think i'll do the chronograph next.
Here's my oldest chrono from '40s.
And already did the diver's, 14 of them, including 6105, and 6159s...
Now the vintage Marvels and Lord Marvels.
Seiko Cronos and Sportsman 17s.
Paul at vintage forum found this Sportsman pocket watch for me ;-)
Now i'm going to do Seiko Crowns, i have exact 20 of them.
Ok, King Seikos...
Almost finish.
Reminds me of the intro of Star Wars, "long time ago galaxy far away..."
I was listening the music and news with this radio while doing this so i won't get bored.
And i think i can count it as one more Seiko.
Here's my over 5k Seikos, GS first model reissue, has solid gold case with 9S movement.
Credor 6S hand wind chrono in WG dase.
and don't forget Spring drives.
And following day, i forgot to took picture of these vintage Crown chronographs, one of 'em is a NOS with box, and i stored in separate place forgot about them. The other one on the right is a Fieldmater known as a Quantra, i forgot about that one too.
So it was 44 row of 11 watches makes 484, plus a radio, 3 additional chronographs, and Fieldmater makes 488, and i forgot to add Grand Seiko reissue makes 489 total, and few more (including 2x 61 Grand Seikos) are in repairshop, so won't be long i shall reached 500 mark soon. I never realized i had that many myself...
And yesterday, i have to put everything away, i wish i can use this to carry this out, though...(i had to put everything back one by one)
Now the episode ll, Swiss and German Empire are strike back.
I guess only needed one table this time.
I have many only one watch from one company stuff, here's my IWC Mk Xll, AP Fredrick Piguet chrono, and Patek 5000.
Here's UN's hand wind chrono, Ike Pod, Type XX from Breguet.
2 Chopards, both are Pro one diver, though.
I have 6 Minervas, these are Avus lls, took me a long time to complete as a set.
Avus 45, Heritage, and 120th. Anniversary.
I have 2 British masters, Graham flyback and Arnord & Son.
The 3rd. raw is for Girard-Perregaux, i guess showed my passion toward the brand. Laureato Evo3, and 1999 chrono. Ecurie Ecosse LE.
Ref.4930 LE in WG case, Gyrodate chronometer...
These two are the observatory chronometers.
4th raw are still GPs, vintage Deep divers, two of 'em are 10 beated automatic...
Vintage Valjoux based chronographs from Girad-Perregaux.
I have these JeanRichard, Diverscope and Chronoscope Sebring LE.
Panny 111 and Omega speedmater pro with cal. 321.
I have 3 JLCs, Master mariner with cal. 883, on the left, Geophysic chronometer, and Aston Martin Vox 1.
3 Breitlings, Co-pilot, AVI and Navitimer. They all have Venus 178 ticking inside.
I like Movado vintage chronos, one on the left has a solid 14k case with cal.95M, middle one has hand wind Universal 295, and Datron on the right has El Premero.
Speaking of El Premero, here's my Zenith Deluca.
I have 3 Eternas...one on the left has Lemania 5100 inside, middle one is an anniversaly alarm, and Kontiki 60.
Hand wind Lemania 186x powered Baume et Mercier chrono.
Heuer with Valjoux 723, and Jean Mercel with Lemania 5100.
These are Lemania's chronos. one with 5012, and rare hand wind with 3881 movement.
This one is an another rare military chrono for the South African force by Lemania, and one on the right is a cal.1341 automatic.
Longines vintage chrono with 30CH, side by side with Wittnauer's chrono, sharing the same case, but has Valjoux 7733 inside.
Now the Rolexes, mid size DJ was used owned by my dad, he gave it to me because he bought solid gold one ;-), two bubble backs.
1016 Exp was my first Rolex i bought in 1983, still looks like a new watch, and 16518 Daytona.
I dropped this Bovet vintage chrono during setting up, i guess i was lucky because only chrono hand fell out, kinda rare with Valjoux 84 single sprit second movement inside. On the right is a Swedish Sjoo Sandstrom chronolink, very unique 2 in one hand wind and quartz in one.
I have these vintage Glycine Airman, one is an Airman special.
O & W MP automatic.
I have these Blancpain's vintage divers...
These are Orfina Porsche design chronos with Lemania 5100, one on the right is a military version.
Union Glashutte Bergter LE (sorry for bad pic), PVDed Kienzle Atlantis ll. now the German stuff. Orange dialed Luminox are the German diver version.
Martin Braun's Teutonia with PUW movement inside, Arctos Blackwave and their first all ceramic cased watch, GPW.
Last raw with Sinns, 8828 LE, 815 quartz diver and 801A 1000m diver.
Chronometered EZM 1, and lemania 5100 powered 156B.
Now the Tutimas, Quartz diver which almost identical to Sinn's 805, real BUND issued military chrono, last of SS cased US Air force LE (of 30).
ok, that Swiss and German watch conbined makes total of 85 watches, and just i thought i finished, i realized i have some more, non Seiko Japanedse watches.
2 Orient.
2 Ricohs (used to be called Takano).
And Citizens...
You know i don't think i want to do this again, i hope enjoyed, i'm all pooped up...
Best regards,
Kohei

Wow, congratulations on the 10,000th post. That is an amazing collection(I have never seen so many watches in one place). I love your Minerva collection, all 6 of them are very special pieces that I would love to have.
Kohei, that was astonishing to see them all lined up like that. I enjoyed that post quite a bit and it was fun to see all the watches both Seiko and Swiss. In fact, that's the first time I've seen a Platinum Mark XII in a long time.
Thank you very much for putting that post together. I know it took a long long time! I'm already looking forward to your 20k posting, but in the meantime, whenever I'm thinking that I have too many watches in my collection and that I've got to sell some, I'll just remember your post. :-)

Kohei, I just used the calculator on my computer...>

...to multiply 11 x 43, and that results in 473 watches! And, as you say, that is just the Seikos.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good grief! Then I see you found some more :-)
I must say those first shots of all the watches laid out in rows got me laughing. It's just so incredible to see such a sea of watches. Photographing all of these was a heck of a task, (especially given the disaster with the sheets!). It's an incredible collection.
Well, congrats on your 10 years of moderating and the 10,000 posts. I've valued the discussions we have had over the years and appreciate the time and effort you have put into TZ.

You could open a museum with that collection. And put many existing museums to shame. Are you going to attempt to get one of the Seiko Space watches when they become available?

"When asked why people give to beggars and not to philosophers, Diogenes said, 'Because they think it possible that they themselves may become lame and blind, but they do not expect ever to turn out wise.'"
That is amazing, I would love to just wander through the sea of vintage Seiko's, let alone all the other fantastic pieces you have shown us.
Congrats on 10K and a sincere thanks for all the help you have given me, I am glad you are here.

Wow - your collection is amazing. And I thought my husband was a W.I.S.!! (Husband is Jorge - whom many of you know from his TZ postings). It's taken me a long time to understand why he's so passionate about watches .. postings like these remind me of why. Congratulations on a wonderful (and massive) collection!

Kohei - I'm hoping your post will make life easier for many TZers >>>

Each of us should bookmark this post. Then when our significant others give us a hard time about buying the 15th or 50th watch, we can show them your table shots and thereby establish conclusively that 15 or 50 watches is *nothing* in this hobby. Shoot... anyone hoping to achieve even a little respect around here better own *at least* a hundred. So, please dear, let's not hear any more complaining about my lousy couple of watches.
Cheers,
Mike
P.S. Congrats on 10,000 posts and (almost) 500 watches!

That is one impressive and focused collection!

but still with plenty of variety, it shows that collections can have focus and variety at the same time. Congrats on the 10,000 posts, hopefully one day I can reach both 10,000 and 500 as well.

I going to make "mince-meat" out of your collection...as soon as I can find a few hundred guys to loan me their watches. :)
Thanks for all your great posts! You are an awesome moderator. I bought the Spring Drive Moonphase after seeing one of the wrist shots you posted. My watch is 44/200. What's yours?

Just kidding, it's a truly amazing collection. I thought you had done some sort of mirror trickery or something, until I went down on the picture-making process.
How come you have all these watches and only one motorcycle? Show us the bike collection as well!

How do you separate the special ones from the bulk of the collection?
Fri, 30 May 2008 19:32
Obviously you don't have the Rolex's or Panerai sitting in a tray with the other stuff (I see lots of cases there). How many watches have a dedicated home vs. being places in trays?
Amazing. That is a LOT of watches!!!

I have just 15% of your collection. So now I feel better about my addiction to watches. My good buddy keeps reminding me I could have bought a brand new Mitsubishi Evolution insted of my watches, and now everytime he reminds me I'll say yeah I know a guy who could buy a house with his watches ;-)
Thanks for posting Kohei!
